So a man asked me yesterday if I thought these were the worst times in history right now. My answer was "at least we have indoor plumbing, no bubonic plague, and Christians aren't being feed to lions as entertainment." In the grade scheme of history I think our problems are mild inconveniences at worst.
Today someone posted the above picture to a reddit site for "OldSchoolCool" with the caption "Ella Fitzgerald jailed in 1955 for singing to an integrated audience." I hope the poster didn't think it was cool that she was arrested - but I felt it was another example of how it isn't as bad now as it was in the past - though on this issue we still have a long long way to go.
Sometimes we really need to think about what is relative. Even today there are people on this earth that would gladly change places with our first world problems in order to have a bite to eat, be their authentic selves, or speak their minds without fear of arrest and/or death.
Wearing a mask and social distancing is just a minor discomfort. Most of the people complaining aren't even the ones out of work or separated from their loved ones. The level of spoiled and privileged attitudes in this "modern civilized" world is just shocking.
