StrangeJuice - Arctic Tundra

I would have placed this in my best of 2018 albums except it is not mixed well.  It clips and breaks up in louder sections and is just generally unpleasant to listen to.  If you persevere the songs are as good as any StrangeJuice recording.  It is just poorly recorded.

I'm not sure how this happened as Mike Anderson is usually a better engineer than this.  Did he intend for this result?  Why?

Favorite Track: Carry My Love In
I would love to hear this track without the clipping - without the vocal distortion/autotune.
I got tired of suggesting he stop using autotune - for whatever reason he, like Greg Laswell, doesn't want to and I think it is a shame.

    1. I guess it could just be me - but it sounds the same in the video track of "Fishing Line ..." and on Spotify - a friend of mine said he thought maybe it had to do with the compression? I don't know that much about the mechanics of it all. I downloaded and played Patterns of Juvenile Delinquency at the same time - it sounded normal. I listen to digital music via a PC running windows and the MusicBee app. I also put it on a thumbdrive to play in the car - sounds distorted/fuzzy in the same spots: for example: "The shine of your smile dwarfs the moon that we sit under
A hundred miles down you swim in your gown below the ocean"
sounds like you are gargling or singing through a kazoo. But more than that it kind of spikes in places and feels like it is jabbing my eardrum. I don't mean to sound harsh but I am trying to explain the listening experience.

    2. in the settings is the MB stereo enhancer on? I am listening through headphones through musicbee, can only hear a very clear recording, ive run an analysis on all tracks there is no clipping. Trying to recreate your listening environment

  3. Could you try listening to the album somewhere else ie in a car, maybe its winamp or something overcompressing as ive listened to it on multiple sources, but some pcs have a built in compressor it might not like the high end as i put a lot of air on the album, i cant hear any distortion on, ie carry my love in and i have never used autotune but i layered the vocals ten fold

  4. Track one vocal was recorded to reel to reel cassette that has an analogue distortion to it

  5. Musicbee has replaygain, it perceives the volume and raises it if it sees a soft song, could be musicbees internal normalisation

  6. I think the problem sounds to me like it is just my perceptions that are ill-fitted to enjoying this record. I tried it in my car - I tried it in Windows Media Player - the effects I don't like persist. It might just be how you wanted it and I don't like it.
I always have stated I would like clearer vocal tracks but you don't seem to have an interest in doing that - which is fine - it is your artistic expression and I still am a huge fan.
If you ever decide to do an album like the performance videos from Market City Tavern - or even naughty Bottle stuff - call it unplugged or live or whatnot I would be over the moon. You have such an amazing voice it deserves more framing and less "photoshopping". In my opinion.
Still I am forever a fan of whatever you put out into the world.
